Storyline
Prologue
It was Richter Belmont, the legendary vampire hunter, who succeeded in finally
ending the menace of Count Dracula, Lord of the Vampires who had been brought
back from the grave by the dark priest Shaft.
However, one night 4 years later, under the glare of a full moon, Richter mysteriously
vanished.
With no idea of where to begin her search, Maria Renard set out to look for
him. It was then that fate intervened. Castlevania, the castle of Dracula, which
is rumored to appear once every century, suddenly materialized from out of the
mist as if to show her the way.
Meanwhile, powerful forces were struggling for the soul of a man named Alucard.
The very same Alucard who had teamed up with Trevor Belmont to battle his immortal
father, Count Vlad Tepes Dracula.
Alucard, in order to purge the world of his own cursed blood line, had submerged
his vampiric powers and entered into what was supposed to be an eternal slumber.
But now, he is awake and aware of the evil once again at work in his homeland.
The time has once again come for the forces of Good and Evil to engage in their
ancient battle. Dracula's castle beckons you...
And no man can say who shall emerge victorious.
General overview
This game, like previous titles, takes place in Transylvania, entirely within
the castle.
SotN features: Alucard, the son of Dracula, the main character on this game.
Alucard previously appeared in Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse. Richter
Belmont, who was the hero in Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, and Maria
Renard who also appeared on that game as well. Death (The Grim Reaper); the
dark priest Shaft; and Dracula serve as the game's principal antagonists.
There are other characters like Lisa, Succubus, The Master Librarian and The
Ferryman, who also are important for the main plot on this magnificent game.
The game's story takes place during the year 1797, five years after the events
of Chi no Rondo.
The story begins as Richter Belmont defeats Dracula at the ending of the previous
game. Four years later, Richter vanishes and is later revealed to be under the
control of the dark priest Shaft, who was killed in Chi no Rondo but was revived.
Richter claims to be the lord of Castlevania. Castlevania is revealed to be
more than a simple castle - it is an entity of Chaos, evidently with some level
of consciousness, that continually shifts and changes to confuse trespassers
with each different incarnation.
The shift in the balance of good and evil causes the son of Dracula, Alucard,
to awaken from his self-induced sleep. Not fully aware of what is happening,
he discovers that Castlevania has once again manifested itself and sets out
to discover what has transpired while he slept. At the same time, Maria Renard
goes to Castlevania to find Richter. Maria and Alucard meet inside the castle
and encounter one another throughout the game.
